There’s something truly magical about a baby turning one. That first year is full of so many changes, from tiny newborn cuddles to wobbly first steps, and reaching that first birthday feels like such a celebration. One of my favourite ways to mark this milestone is with a First Birthday Cake Smash session at my cosy home studio in Chatham, Kent.

These sessions are a mix of fun, sweetness (literally!), and just the right amount of chaos, all wrapped up in memories you’ll treasure forever. My Little Milestone package includes three beautifully styled sections, giving you a variety of images to remember this special time.

1. Playful, Posed Portraits to Start

We begin with a calm and sweet portrait session where your little one can play and explore. I use a selection of simple, timeless backdrops and props to keep the focus on your baby’s personality. Whether they’re full of cheeky grins or a little more thoughtful, these first posed images capture the essence of your one-year-old just as they are.

It's a great warm-up and helps your little one settle in and get comfortable in front of the camera. The relaxed setting of my home studio is designed to feel calm, safe, and baby-friendly.

2. Let the Mess Begin: The Cake Smash

Next, we bring out the cake. This is where the fun really kicks off. Some babies dive right in, others are more curious, but no matter their style, the results are always joyful, messy, and completely adorable. Every reaction is unique, and that's what makes cake smashes so special.

Don’t have a cake in mind? I offer a simple, beautifully baked cake for a small additional fee, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own. It’s the perfect size for little hands and made with a soft sponge and minimal decoration, keeping it both photogenic and baby-friendly.

3. Splash Time: A Tub to Finish

After all that frosting fun, it’s time for a clean-up that’s just as cute as the mess itself. A warm little tub awaits your baby for a bubbly soak, complete with splashes, giggles, and gorgeous final photos. Not only does this help wash away the cake, but it’s also one of the most loved parts of the session. Babies tend to relax and really enjoy the water.

The tub session also gives you a fresh set of images that are sweet, playful, and perfect for finishing off your baby’s milestone gallery.
